Our livestock is the cornerstone of Skara Brae Homestead.  Without healthy animals, our farm could not exist.  To ensure this, we breed only the best and have a regular veterinary schedule.  All of our animals are pasture raised and/or free ranged without the input of antibiotics, hormones, or chemicals.

Skara Brae focuses on heritage breed livestock.  Many times, these breeds of livestock are rare.  This may concern people who don't understand why we would raise and sell rare animals.  Please realize that it is important to create a market for heritage breed livestock so more farms will preserve and raise them.  Farmers can not afford to raise animals that do not create a profit.

It is our responsibility to preserve and breed only the best specimens thus leaving us animals that can be processed for our customers.  By purchasing our products, you are helping to create a market and allowing us to continue to raise these animals and add to their population.  You are ensuring these breeds of livestock do not disappear into our agricultural history.
